About the role
Topeka Public Schools seeks an experienced educator to serve as an instructional coach. This role supports and sustains effective teaching and learning through job-embedded professional development.
Qualifications
- Must possess a valid Kansas Teaching License
- Completed a minimum of three years of successful teaching experience
- Demonstrated success as a classroom teacher
- Extensive knowledge of the Common Core State Standards, assessment, instruction, classroom management, instructional resources, and technology
- Possess interpersonal, problem solving, and organizational skills necessary to effectively facilitate coaching and professional development
- ESOL endorsement preferred

- Speaking, hearing, visual, reading, writing, word processing, mobility
- Able to maintain consistency of temperament
- Able to problem solve and work in stress-providing environments
Performance Responsibilities
- Classroom Observation with Feedback – Observes a teacher’s lesson and provides feedback during a scheduled post-conference
- Collaborative Problem Solving – Meets with teachers or groups to plan instruction and solve instructional and assessment issues
- Analyze Students’ Work – Facilitates the analysis of students’ work and brainstorm next steps for instruction
- Model a Lesson (on a limited basis) – Models a lesson or partial lesson for teachers and engages in a learning-focused dialogue
- Co-plan or Co-teach a Lesson – Plans and/or teaches a lesson with a teacher, engaging in a learning-focused dialogue after the lesson
- Professional Development – Provides professional development to teachers and administrators based on identified needs
Terms of Employment
This is a 9-month certified position. The work year will be determined by the Board of Education.
Evaluation
The performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board policy on evaluation of instructional coaching staff.
