Certified Phlebotomy Tech - Sharp Grossmont - Variable Shift - Per Diem

This position is covered by a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) with SEIU-UHW. As part of the terms of employment, employees in this role are required to join the union within 31 days of hire and remain a member (e.g. dues paying, fee paying, religious exception contributor) for the duration of the collective bargaining agreement. The position was originally posted to ratified SEIU members from 6/4/26-6/12/26 and is now available to internal candidates not in the ratified Bargaining Unit or external candidates.

Schedule

Variable shift start and end times. Weekend work required every other week. On-call is not required.

Pay

Hourly pay range: $30.980 – $43.370 (minimum to maximum).

Responsibilities

• Provide technical knowledge, expertise, and judgment to support Sharp HealthCare’s laboratory services.
• Equipment management:
  • Operate and maintain all laboratory equipment, instruments, and tools per manufacturer instructions and established procedures.
  • Demonstrate competency and efficient use of IT systems, software, and equipment.
  • Perform and validate preventive and corrective maintenance on equipment.
  • Report and document equipment, tool, or reagent issues; manage inventory expiration dates and consumable supplies to prevent shortages.
  • Remove defective equipment from use, document problems, and notify personnel for repair.
  • Verify equipment safety inspections are up-to-date.
• Quality assurance:
  • Coordinate and complete processes to meet quality testing standards, including collaboration in continuous improvement.
  • Complete and validate daily tasks within expected timeframes to meet QA indicator goals.
  • Identify errors, investigate, correct, document, and notify appropriate personnel and leadership.
  • Engage in self-discovery, set goals for improvement, and view deficiencies as growth opportunities.
  • Communicate clearly using Closed Loop and SBAR tools; receive and provide feedback thoughtfully.
  • Notify caregivers proactively of delays that may impact specimen collection, processing, or testing turnaround times.
• Specimen collection process:
  • Perform specimen collection without error using written policies, procedures, and resources; identify issues in policies or procedures.
  • Adhere to department turnaround time goals for new procedures and policies.
  • Document activities and results thoroughly and legibly; proofread and double-check work to minimize errors.
  • Perform patient reception, sample collection, processing, and assist with analytical procedures; assess testing factors for patient age and population-specific groups.
  • Evaluate work for accuracy; investigate questionable findings and seek supervisory guidance as needed.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

• AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare) – American Heart Association (required).
• California Certified Phlebotomy Technician I (CPT I) Certificate – CA Department of Public Health (required).

Preferred Qualifications

• Phlebotomy experience in a clinical laboratory.
