Certified Pharmacy Technician, First Shift, Pharmacy Administration

About the role

UC Health is hiring a full-time Certified Pharmacy Technician II in the Medication Access Services Pharmacy at University of Cincinnati’s Medical Center. Pharmacy technicians assist pharmacists in preparing and distributing medications, maintaining drug inventory, and maintaining patient records under the supervision of a registered pharmacist. Pharmacy Technician II demonstrates a high level of initiative, motivation, and competency in specialized department areas. Medication Access Services teams help patients overcome cost-related barriers by enrolling them in medication assistance programs.

After a 4-6 week onsite training period, the role follows a hybrid schedule: 1 week onsite followed by 2 weeks working from home. A $2000 sign-on bonus is offered.

Responsibilities

• Procure and distribute medication orders per prescriber request, pharmacist request, or prearranged work assignment according to established policies, procedures, and protocols
• Fill physician orders, medication kits, medication carts, and stock requisitions accurately
• Replenish medications in emergency drug containers and floor stock areas accurately
• Prepare intravenous admixtures and other sterile preparations (including chemotherapy and parenteral nutrition) safely and accurately using appropriate techniques
• Deliver medications and supplies to patient care and ancillary areas accurately per established schedule
• Maintain adequate stock of medications and supplies according to established policies and procedures
• Pick up orders, requisitions, and medications for return from patient care areas during delivery rounds
• Enter medication orders into the pharmacy computer system accurately (if applicable)
• Enter charges and credits for patient medications accurately
• Generate reports, pick lists, and labels as required
• Answer the telephone, identify self and department, and direct calls to appropriate personnel
• Respond to requests at the window/door and make STAT deliveries to patient care and ancillary areas when requested
• Organize and prioritize work assignments
• Maintain logs, records, and other required documentation accurately; file documentation in appropriate locations
• Demonstrate good oral and written communication
• Keep pharmacy areas clean, neat, and well-organized; maintain clean pharmacy equipment
• Complete and document all assigned medication storage area inspections at least monthly; identify and replace outdated and unusable medications
• Collect data, conduct quality monitors, and complete documentation as assigned
• Organize and maintain responsibility for an identified quality improvement project for the department
• Present annual updates for project responsibilities
• Meet and perform according to hospital and department standards of performance

Requirements

• Current pharmacy technician registration and certification recognized by the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy
• Three to five years of equivalent experience, minimum required
• Ability to perform work accurately with attention to detail within specified time periods
• Work cooperatively with health-system and pharmacy staff
• Handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload and work schedule
• Set priorities and solve problems
• Respond quickly to emergency requests
• Communicate effectively (orally and in writing)
• Assist in meeting the pharmaceutical care needs of the patient populations served by the organization

Qualifications

Education: Recently certified, licensed, or graduated within the past 12 months, or three to five years of equivalent experience.

Pay

The expected starting salary range for this position is $21.01/hr. to $27.86/hr. Actual pay will depend on experience, skills, alignment with internal candidates, and marketplace factors.

Schedule

40 hours per week, 0800–1630 Monday through Friday (hybrid after training).
