Certified Pharmacy Technician

About the role

Assists the pharmacist, under direct supervision, in the practice of pharmacy in accordance with state and federal regulations and company policies. Responsible for using pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions. If PTCB certified, assists with and coaches pharmacy technicians in the operation of pharmacy systems and cashiers in the operation of the pharmacy cash registers.

Responsibilities

• Models and delivers a distinctive and delightful customer experience.
• Engages customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services; resolves customer issues and answers questions.
• Models and shares customer service best practices, including interpersonal habits (e.g., greeting, eye contact, courtesy) and Walgreens service traits (e.g., offering help proactively, identifying needs, servicing until satisfied).
• Develops strong relationships with most valuable customers.
• Under pharmacist supervision, assists in the practice of pharmacy, reviews and complies with the Walgreen Co. Pharmacy Code of Conduct.
• Utilizes pharmacy systems to enter patient and drug information, ensuring accuracy; fills prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring pharmaceutical drugs, verifying medicine, and checking for interactions.
• Assists pharmacists in scheduling and maintaining workflow.
• Reports prescription errors immediately to the pharmacist on duty and adheres to policies related to pharmacy errors and the Quality Improvement Program.
• Strictly adheres to Good Faith Dispensing policies during all prescription dispensing activities.
• Registers related sales on assigned cash register, collects and handles cash, and assists customers in locating products.
• Handles telephone calls that do not require the pharmacist’s personal attention, including calls to physicians.
• Processes and resubmits manual claims for third-party program prescription services efficiently and performs other clerical duties as assigned.
• Assists with inventory management activities, such as ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing pharmaceutical shipments.
• Maintains knowledge of asset protection techniques and files claims for warehouse overages, shortages, order errors, or damaged goods involving prescription drugs.
• May assist pharmacists in administering clinical services, including collecting and labeling blood/urine samples, and coordinating clinical services with healthcare clinics and external providers.
• Assists in developing and maintaining relationships with the local medical community, including physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers.
• Maintains the Pharmacy Department’s cleanliness, neatness, and adequate supply levels.
• Complies with all company policies and procedures and maintains respectful relationships with coworkers.
• Completes special assignments and other tasks as assigned.

Requirements

• Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico).
• Requires willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evening and weekend hours.

Qualifications

• Earns and maintains PTCB certification through the designated training program or state-required certification/registration; PTCB certification is required as a condition of promotion to senior technician.
• Attends training and completes PPLs requested by the manager; acquires continuing education credits.
• Maintains knowledge and skill in healthcare and pharmacy, including the latest news and developments.

Preferred Qualifications

• Six months of experience in a retail environment.
• Prior work experience with Walgreens.
• Good math skills for accurately filling prescriptions, including counting, measuring, and weighing medications.
• Good computer skills.
• Knowledge of store inventory control.
• PTCB certification.

Pay

Salary Range: $18 - $21.50 per hour.
