Certified Pharmacy Technician

About the role

Assists the pharmacist, under direct supervision, in the practice of pharmacy in accordance with state, federal, and company regulations. Responsible for using pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions. If PTCB certified, assists with and coaches pharmacy technicians in the operation of pharmacy systems and cashiers in the operation of the pharmacy cash registers.

Responsibilities

• Models and delivers a distinctive and delightful customer experience by greeting customers, offering assistance, resolving issues, and sharing best practices with team members.
• Under pharmacist supervision, assists in pharmacy practice including entering patient and drug information, filling prescriptions, verifying medicine accuracy, and checking for interactions.
• Utilizes pharmacy systems to enter data correctly, retrieve and count pharmaceutical drugs, and ensure prescriptions are filled accurately.
• Assists pharmacists in scheduling and maintaining workflow, and reports prescription errors immediately to the pharmacist on duty.
• Adheres to company policies regarding Good Faith Dispensing and the Quality Improvement Program.
• Handles cash transactions, registers sales, and assists customers in locating over-the-counter products.
• Processes manual claims for third-party prescription services and performs clerical duties as assigned.
• Assists in inventory management, including ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing pharmaceutical shipments.
• Files claims for warehouse overages, shortages, order errors, or damaged goods involving prescription drugs.
• May assist in administering clinical services, such as collecting and labeling blood/urine samples, and coordinating with healthcare clinics and providers.
• Develops and maintains relationships with the local medical community through outreach to physicians, nurses, and health groups.
• Maintains pharmacy department supplies, cleanliness, and orderly appearance.
• Completes special assignments and other tasks as assigned by the Pharmacy Manager or Staff Pharmacist.

Requirements

• Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico).
• Requires willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.

Qualifications

• Earns and maintains PTCB certification through the designated training program or state-required certification/registration.
• Completes training and continuing education credits as requested by management.
• Preferred six months of experience in a retail environment, prior work experience with Walgreens, and good math and computer skills.
• Preferred knowledge of store inventory control and PTCB certification.

Pay

Salary Range: $18 - $21.50 per hour. The actual compensation offered will depend on factors including geography, skills, education, experience, and other relevant considerations.
