Certified Pharmacy Technician

About the Role

Assists the pharmacist, under direct supervision, in the practice of pharmacy in accordance with state, federal, and company policies. Responsible for using pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions. If PTCB certified, assists with and coaches pharmacy technicians in the operation of pharmacy systems and cashiers in the operation of pharmacy cash registers.

Responsibilities

• Models and delivers a distinctive and delightful customer experience by engaging customers, resolving issues, and sharing best practices with team members.
• Under pharmacist supervision, assists in pharmacy operations including entering patient and drug information, filling prescriptions, verifying medicine accuracy, and checking for interactions.
• Utilizes pharmacy systems to enter data correctly, retrieve and count pharmaceutical drugs, and ensure prescriptions are filled accurately.
• Assists pharmacists in scheduling and maintaining workflow, and reports prescription errors immediately to the pharmacist on duty.
• Adheres to company policies regarding Good Faith Dispensing and the Quality Improvement Program.
• Handles cash transactions, processes manual claims for third-party prescription services, and performs clerical duties as assigned.
• Assists in inventory management, including ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing pharmaceutical shipments.
• Files claims for warehouse overages, shortages, order errors, or damaged goods involving prescription drugs.
• May assist in administering clinical services, such as collecting and labeling blood/urine samples, and coordinating with healthcare clinics and providers.
• Develops and maintains relationships with the local medical community through outreach to physicians, nurses, and health groups.
• Maintains a clean, neat, and orderly pharmacy department with adequate supplies.
• Completes special assignments and other tasks as assigned.

Requirements

• Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico).
• Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
• Earns and maintains PTCB certification through the designated training program or state-required certification/registration.

Preferred Qualifications

• Six months of experience in a retail environment.
• Prior work experience with Walgreens.
• Good math skills for accurate prescription filling, including counting, measuring, and weighing medications.
• Good computer skills and knowledge of store inventory control.
• PTCB certification.

Training & Personal Development

• Completes training and PPLs requested by the manager and acquires continuing education credits.
• Maintains knowledge and skills in healthcare and pharmacy, including staying updated on news and developments.

Pay

Salary Range: $17.50 - $21.00 / Hourly
