About the role

As a CNA/PCA in our PreOp PACU department, you will bring your experience and passion for health care to a fast-paced, high-acuity environment. Banner Desert Medical Center/Banner Children’s at Desert features 24 operating rooms, including trauma, pediatric, minimally invasive, and robotic rooms. We perform over 21,000 surgeries annually across specialties such as peds cardiovascular, trauma, urology, orthopedics, general, gynecology, neurology, EENT, plastics, and robotics. Responsibilities

• Provides assistance in activities of daily living, including basic hygiene, mobility, and nutritional intake.
• Collects patient specimens and data (vital signs, input/output, and other delegated measurements) and documents routine aspects of patient care.
• Assists in transporting patient specimens and recognizes/reports abnormalities or changes in patient health status.
• Promotes continuity of care by communicating patient status to other caregivers.
• Performs procedures (e.g., blood draws, foley catheter removal, EKGs, EKG monitoring) and uses equipment as delegated by a licensed professional.
• Provides supplies, support, and assistance for unit-specific procedures under direct supervision.
• Performs receptionist/clerical duties to support operational efficiency and customer service.
• Maintains complete patient records, including admission, transfer, discharge information, and consent forms.
• Ensures charting forms are labeled and accessible; maintains adequate supplies of patient education materials.
• Orders and reconciles patient specimens and medical supplies; monitors electronic equipment (e.g., patient ID scanners, laptops).
• Assists with transporting patients, including pre-operative and post-operative patients to critical care units.
• Participates in OR room turnover.

Requirements

• High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.
• Current BLS certification.
• Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in state of practice (required for new hires and transfers; existing Tucson incumbents may not transfer without meeting this requirement).
• 1 year of medical clerical experience (preferably in a hospital or physician office setting) or prior customer service experience.
• Excellent organizational, human relations, and communication skills.
• Working knowledge of medical terminology and computer literacy/keyboarding skills.
• Depending on department assignment, must pass an ECG or EEG test with a minimum score of 85% (identifying lethal cardiac dysrhythmias and epileptiform activity) and complete a unit-approved course or on-the-job training.
• For employees in behavioral health settings serving children: Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card and signed Arizona Criminal History Affidavit (required at hire and maintained throughout employment).
• For Banner Home Care AZ employees: Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card (required at hire and maintained throughout employment).

Preferred Qualifications

• Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA) licensure in Arizona.
• Recent healthcare experience.
• Successful completion of an approved unit secretary program.

Schedule

• Employment Type: Full-time
• Hours per Week: 4-10s or 5-8s
• Shifts: 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM
• Schedule: Monday – Friday (weekends, holidays, and on-call not required for this shift).
