Certified Patient Care Assistant Days

About the role
As a CNA/Patient Care Assistant in the SON (Surgical, Ortho, Neuro) Unit at North Colorado Medical Center, you will provide routine patient care to promote patient comfort and contribute to the overall patient plan of care. This position is responsible for ongoing patient data collection, documentation, and a variety of unit support functions that ensure the efficient operation of the nursing unit/department.

A $1,500 hire-on incentive is available for eligible candidates.
Schedule
- Full-time: 36 hours per week
- Three 12-hour shifts per week (6:00 AM – 6:30 PM)
- Weekend rotations required
- Weekend shift differential: $1.50/hour (flat rate) and $5.00/hour when applicable
Responsibilities
- Assist patients with activities of daily living, including hygiene, mobility, and nutritional intake.
- Collect patient specimens and data (e.g., vital signs, input/output) in accordance with unit/facility policies and standards of care.
- Document objective data and routine aspects of patient care in medical records.
- Assist in transporting patient specimens and ensure accurate communication of patient status to other caregivers.
- Recognize and report abnormalities or changes in patient health status to licensed professionals.
- Perform delegated procedures (e.g., blood draws, Foley catheter removal, EKGs, EKG monitoring) consistent with demonstrated competencies and state scope of practice.
- Provide supplies, support, and assistance for unit-specific procedures under direct supervision.
- Perform receptionist/clerical duties to support operational efficiency and communication flow.
- Resolve customer problems or escalate issues to appropriate personnel.
- Maintain complete patient records, including admission, transfer, discharge information, progress notes, and consent forms.
- Ensure charting forms are labeled, accessible, and properly filed or scanned into patient records.
- Maintain adequate supplies of patient education materials, office, dietary, and medical supplies; complete requisition forms and reconcile orders upon delivery.
- Monitor and track electronic equipment (e.g., patient ID scanners, laptops) to ensure accountability and functionality.
- Transcribe and process physician orders using the electronic medical record (as applicable).
- Assist with transporting patients, including pre-operative and post-operative patients to critical care units (based on assignment).
- Participate in OR room turnover.
Requirements
- High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.
- Current BLS certification.
- Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in the state of practice (required for new hires and transfers; existing Tucson incumbents may not transfer without meeting this requirement).
- 1 year of medical clerical experience (preferably in a hospital or physician office setting) or prior customer service experience.
- Excellent organizational, human relations, and communication skills.
- Working knowledge of medical terminology and computer literacy/keyboarding skills.
- For specific departments: Minimum passing score of 85% on ECG or EEG test with accurate identification of lethal cardiac dysrhythmias and epileptiform activity; completion of a unit-approved electrocardiogram or electroencephalographic interpretation course or on-the-job training.
- For employees in behavioral health settings serving children (Banner Behavioral Health Hospital, BTMC Behavioral, BUMG, BUMCT, or BUMCS): Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card required at hire and maintained throughout employment; Arizona Criminal History Affidavit must be signed upon hire.
- For Banner Home Care AZ employees: Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card required at hire and maintained throughout employment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA) licensure (preferred in Arizona).
- Recent healthcare experience.
- Successful completion of an approved unit secretary program.
Pay
Estimated pay range: $17.67 – $26.50 per hour. Actual pay determined at offer will be based on years of relevant experience, education, certifications, skills, geographic location, and a review of current employees in similar roles to ensure pay equity.
