Certified Patient Care Assistant CNA LNA ICU

About the role
As a Patient Care Assistant (PCA) for the Banner Gateway Oncology ICU and Stem Cell Transplant Unit, you will join a 24-bed unit with a 12:1 patient ratio, specializing in the care of oncology patients. This includes diagnosis, treatment (chemotherapy, immunotherapy, radiation), symptom management, palliative (supportive) care, clinical trials, and stem cell patient care. The unit primarily serves patients with leukemia and other cancers, many of whom have extended stays, allowing for strong therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
This is a full-time day shift position, working three 12-hour shifts per week (6:30 AM – 7:00 PM) on a rotating weekends and holidays schedule. You will have access to a self-scheduling tool, a $1/hour weekend shift differential, and an 18% night shift differential when applicable.

Responsibilities
- Provides assistance with activities of daily living, including hygiene, mobility, and nutritional intake to promote patient comfort and health.
- Collects and documents patient specimens and data, such as vital signs, input/output, and other delegated measurements.
- Documents objective data and routine aspects of patient care in medical records.
- Assists in transporting patient specimens and recognizes/reports abnormalities or changes in patient health status.
- Promotes continuity of care by communicating patient status accurately to other caregivers.
- Performs procedures and uses equipment as delegated by a licensed professional, including blood draws, Foley catheter removal, EKGs, and monitoring.
- Provides supplies and assistance for unit-specific procedures under direct supervision.
- Performs receptionist/clerical duties to support unit efficiency and communication flow.
- Participates in resolving customer problems or escalates issues to appropriate personnel.
- Maintains complete patient records, including admission, transfer, discharge information, progress notes, and consent forms.
- Ensures all reports and forms are scanned or filed into patient records and maintains accessibility of charting forms.
- Manages supplies, including ordering, reconciling deliveries, and tracking electronic equipment.
- May assist with transporting patients, including pre- and post-operative patients, and participates in OR room turnover.
Requirements
- High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.
- Current BLS certification.
- Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in the state of practice (required for new hires and transfers; existing Tucson incumbents may not transfer without meeting this requirement).
- 1 year of medical clerical experience (preferably in a hospital or physician office) or prior customer service experience.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and human relations skills.
- Working knowledge of medical terminology and computer literacy/keyboarding skills.
- Depending on department assignment, must pass an ECG or EEG test with a minimum score of 85%, accurately identifying lethal cardiac dysrhythmias and epileptiform activity.
- Successful completion of a unit-approved basic electrocardiogram or electroencephalographic interpretation course, or on-the-job training.
- For positions in behavioral health settings serving children: Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card and signed Arizona Criminal History Affidavit.
- For Banner Home Care AZ positions: Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card.
Preferred Qualifications
- Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA) licensure in Arizona.
- Recent healthcare experience.
- Completion of an approved unit secretary program.
Pay
$3,000 sign-on bonus for licensed CNA or LNA.
Flat rate $1/hour weekend shift differential and 18% night shift differential when applicable.
Schedule
Full-time day shift: three 12-hour shifts per week (6:30 AM – 7:00 PM), with rotating weekends and holidays.
