Certified Pathologist Assistant - Kelsey Seybold Clinics: North Houston Campus
About the role
A Certified Pathology Assistant (CPA) works under the direction of a licensed Pathologist to support the laboratory diagnosis of disease. The CPA performs a wide range of laboratory procedures including dissections, embedding, microtomy, and staining. They assist in the preparation of tissue samples for examination by Pathologists and play an important role in the administration and management of the Pathology laboratory.
Responsibilities
- Performs gross examination and dissection of surgical specimens
- Assists in the preparation of tissue samples for examination by Pathologists
- Supports the laboratory diagnosis of disease through various laboratory procedures
- Works under the direction of a licensed Pathologist
- Assists in the preparation of tissue samples for examination by Pathologists
- Participates in the administration and management of the Pathology laboratory
Requirements
- Completion of a master's degree from a NAACLS-accredited pathologists' assistant program
- No experience necessary for recent graduates with one year of clinical training
- Experience performing gross examination and dissection of surgical specimens
- Proficiency in laboratory information systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and voice dictation software
- Certification as a Pathologists' Assistant (PA) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), or new graduate eligible to take the ASCP certification exam and complete within one year of hire date
- Proven solid organizational and communication skills
- Proven ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
