Job Summary
A health care professional specializing in the provision of certain orthoses, including patient assessment, formulation of a treatment plan, implementation, follow-up, and practice management.
Essential Functions
- Assessment of prescription and patient’s needs for prefabricated orthoses, including physical assessment, circulation, skin integrity, posture, and orthotic requirements.
- Formulation of a treatment plan based on an assessment to alleviate limitations and enhance function.
- Implementation of the orthotic fitter’s treatment plan, including verification of prescription/documentation, consultation with and/or referral to other health care professionals.
- Utilization of a follow-up treatment plan to ensure successful orthotic outcomes, patient health, and quality of life, including documentation of functional changes, formulation of modifications, and confirmation of patient education and instruction.
- Aids in scheduling patients for follow-up visits and fittings.
- Compliance with practice management plans, including adherence to applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations, following patient care guidelines and procedures, maintaining a safe and professional environment for patient care, and comprehension of claims development and submission.
- Timely collection of physician prescriptions, patient demographics including insurance information and medical records for billing purposes. Submits all documents within the timeframes established by the organization.
- Aids in the stocking and maintenance of appropriate inventories of supplies and orthoses.
- Assists in the fabrication of orthotics as directed under the supervision of a Certified Orthotist / Prosthetist or Certified Orthotic Technician.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervisory/Management Responsibilities
This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director, or executive.
Minimum Requirements
- Education: Job-related course work beyond high school in health and/or sports medicine related fields.
- No experience required.
- Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses:
- Certified Orthotic Fitter (ABCOP certified or BOC certified).
- A valid driver’s license; an acceptable motor vehicle record, as defined by the Acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) Chart; and proof of auto insurance.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
- Knowledge of office equipment (fax/copier).
- Proficient computer skills (word processing).
- Mental skills.
- Orthotic fabrication skills preferred.
