About the role

Sunnyside Retirement Community is seeking a COTA (PRN) to join the Rehabilitation Services team. The ideal candidate will build genuine relationships with residents, their families, and the community.

Responsibilities

  • Provides services under the direction of a licensed occupational therapist.
  • Fulfills treatment plans developed in collaboration with an occupational therapist by teaching techniques, such as proper transfers and stretching.
  • Evaluates living skills and capabilities of physically, developmentally, and emotionally disabled patients.
  • Selects and develops activities to help patients function independently.
  • Monitors and records patients' progress, attitudes, and behavior, and provides feedback to superiors.
  • Trains patients and their families on in-home programs, basic living skills, and the care and use of adaptive equipment.
  • Performs routine tasks, such as helping patients achieve stretches and teaching the use of specific equipment.
  • Documents patient care services according to approved medical documentation and facility procedures.
  • Learns from patients and colleagues, leading by example and exhibiting professionalism.
  • Encourages collaboration and flexibility within the department and interdepartmental teamwork for positive outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Education: Graduate of an accredited therapy program.
  • Experience: 2-3 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Licenses/Certifications: Current COTA licensure, CPR certification.
  • Skills: Excellent verbal & written communication, time management, critical thinking, sound judgment & decision making, active listening, service orientation, social perceptiveness, compassionate instruction.
