BASIC FUNCTION
This position is for a PRN Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants offer an approach that focuses on the effects of injury on the social, emotional, and physiological condition of individuals, and assists in meeting goals written by an evaluating therapist related to an individual’s balance, motor skills, posture, and perceptual and cognitive abilities within the context of functional, everyday activities. Occupational Therapy helps individuals achieve greater independence in their lives by regaining some or all of the physical, perceptual, and/or cognitive skills needed to perform activities of daily living.
SPECIFIC DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for learning and implementing all aspects of Minds Matter LLC philosophical principles.
- Aid individuals to identify their needs and develop appropriate compensatory techniques to accommodate the consequences of their brain injury.
- Contribute to evaluations that address consumers’ physical and mental abilities and analyze medical data to determine best methods and strategies for therapies.
- Evaluate and recommend changes to the supervising Occupational Therapist in consumers’ work or living environments that are consistent with their needs.
- Collaborate with consumers and other professional staff to determine when goals are being met.
- Attend team meetings and assist consumers in goal setting.
- Serve as a consumer’s team lead, which entails being accountable for updating goal plans and team meeting history forms during the team meetings with progress, effectiveness of strategies, concerns, task assignments to team members, or changes to goals.
- Integrate employment, educational and independent living goals into therapy.
- Work closely with the consumer to ascertain goals.
- Provide services only as designated on each individual consumer’s plan of care and /or physician orders.
- Complete daily notes with consumers the day of services that are goal driven, concise, factual and clear.
- Maintain and turn in all documentation at assigned times.
- Educate families about the consequences of brain injury and communicate with them about goals and progress as needed.
- Attend all trainings and workshops to maintain ability to provide the most up to date, effective and evidence-based practice.
- Provide effective documentation that is legible, timely and appropriate to services provided to consumers.
- Be aware of departmental goals and objectives and take an active role in helping the department to attain goals.
- Schedule weekly supervision meetings with supervising OTR to review individual cases and departmental objectives.
- Meet all policy and procedure requirements of Minds Matter LLC on time including completion of timesheets, mileage, and other reports.
- Establish and maintain a professional rapport with all consumers, co-workers, referral agents and representatives of other community agencies and services, including attendance at planning meetings, etc.
- Maintain confidentiality of consumers medical records or services according to HIPAA regulations.
- Promote public relations throughout the agency and community for the program.
- Demonstrate a willingness to serve on agency and interagency work groups as requested.
- Provide care and maintenance for Minds Matter LLC issued iPad.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Successfully completion of an occupational therapy assistant program from an accredited associate degree program.
- Experience working with people with disabilities is appreciated.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Must have a current license in the state of Kansas or Missouri.
- Excellent written, verbal communication skills.
- Must be organized, possess problem solving skills, and be able to multitask.
- Must have advanced analytical skills.
- High degree of sensitivity toward all people.
- Ability to effectively plan, coordinate and assist with intake process and systems.
- Attention to detail.
