Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant

About the Role

The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) provides therapeutic services to enhance the goals and objectives of residents. The COTA implements the therapeutic program prescribed by the Occupational Therapist, focusing on residents with disorders, neurological deficits, weakness, or paralysis.

Responsibilities

• Implement therapeutic programs as prescribed by the Occupational Therapist.
• Screen residents under the following conditions:
  • New facility residents: within 24 hours of admission.
  • Long-term residents: upon receipt of a "Significant Change" form or referral from nursing.
• Complete all necessary documentation, including weekly notes, co-signed by the Registered Physical Therapist (RPT).
• Attend required facility meetings and in-services, such as Medicare meetings, staffing, family meetings, and care plans.
• Develop programs in cooperation with the Regional Manager to assist residents in achieving their highest feasible level of functioning.
• Assist the facility in meeting state, federal, and certification standards.
• Follow facility infection control policies, OBRA Residents Guidelines, and maintain professional conduct, communication, and appearance.
• Report productivity levels to the Regional Manager if they consistently fall below or exceed standards.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Manager, Supervising RPT, or Regional Manager.

Requirements

• Must be able to read, write, and understand the English language.
• Must attend a minimum of 12 hours of continuing education programs annually to maintain certification.
• Graduate of a 2-year Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant Program.
• State licensure as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant.
• Extensive knowledge of department processes and therapeutic techniques.

Physical Demands

• Perform transfers of residents to and from surfaces such as bed, chair, and commode, including maximal assistance for residents weighing over 100 lbs (frequent).
• Occasionally lift supplies up to 50 lbs to chest level and 10 lbs overhead.
• Push/pull residents weighing up to 300 lbs in a wheelchair for distances up to 200 yards (frequent for shorter distances).
• Work in a variety of environmental conditions.

Pay

Competitive wages with a sign-on bonus of $2,500 upon hire.

Schedule

Available shifts include part-time and P.R.N. (as needed).
