Responsibilities

  • Implement treatment plans as developed by the Occupational Therapist.
  • Auxiliary patients with therapeutic exercises, activities, and functional tasks.
  • Monitor and document patient progress, including physical and emotional responses to therapy.
  • Educate patients and their families on strategies to improve daily functioning and independence.
  • Participate in patient evaluations and assessments, providing relevant input to the Occupational Therapist.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient care, progress, and any changes in condition.
  • Ensure compliance with facility policies, state regulations, and professional standards.
  • Collaborate with the Occupational Therapist and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members regarding treatment plans and progress.
  • Attend and contribute to team meetings and case conferences as needed.
  • Adhere to infection control and safety protocols to ensure a safe environment for patients.
  • Follow facility procedures for handling equipment and materials used in therapy.
  • Stay updated with continuing education and professional development to maintain licensure and enhance clinical skills.

Qualifications

  • Education: Associate degree in Occupational Therapy Assistant program from an accredited institution.
  • Licensure: Current state licensure or certification as an Occupational Therapy Assistant.
  • Experience: Previous experience in a skilled nursing facility or similar setting preferred, but not required.
  • Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work collaboratively within a team; excellent organizational and time management abilities; compassionate and patient-focused approach to care.
