About the role

The Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (COTA) position at NeuroRestorative, a part of the Sevita family, supports various programs in Ypsilanti, MI. These programs include vocational and therapy programs, day treatments, and specialized services for infants, children, adolescents, Military Service Members, and Veterans.

Responsibilities

  • Administers occupational therapy treatment to program participants according to a program plan developed by a licensed occupational therapist.
  • Schedules and documents therapy sessions for program participants.
  • Performs active, passive, and/or resistive therapeutic exercises, and applies general therapy principles.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of heating modalities and techniques, and fabricates appropriate splints under occupational therapist's guidance.
  • Instructs program participants on proper splint wear and care.
  • Trains program participants in endurance training and homebound/community-level activities.
  • Maintains a comprehensive understanding of occupational therapy equipment and therapeutic exercise treatments.
  • Communicates with staff and other healthcare professionals to modify and coordinate treatment plans, and participates in treatment planning with interdisciplinary teams as requested.
  • Confirms patient confidentiality and adheres to ethical standards.
  • Takes inventory of occupational therapy equipment, discusses current status and future needs with the department, and requests supplies as necessary.
  • Maintains or checks daily billing logs for program participants.
  • Fulfills daily scheduling patterns, communicates with staff, and adjusts schedules as needed for flexibility.
  • Performs other related duties and activities as required.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma and graduate of an accredited COTA program with A.A.S. in OT.
  • Two years’ experience in neuro-rehabilitation preferred.
  • Licensed as COTA/L in State.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of occupational therapy principles and practices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Physical ability to perform heavy work, including lifting and moving objects.
