About the Role

BayPointe Hospital is a psychiatric acute care facility in Mobile, AL serving children, adolescents, and adults in crisis. Clinical and medical professionals assess and stabilize patients exhibiting life-threatening, destructive, or disabling behaviors to prevent psychiatric commitment. Each patient receives a diagnostic evaluation and 24-hour clinical care, with the goal of returning home or to the least restrictive level of care.

Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) perform daily tasks including vital signs, blood sugar testing, EKGs, and basic observation and monitoring of patients. CNAs provide care for dependent patients, assist with activities of daily living, and de-escalate crisis situations using mindset principles while collaborating with the treatment team.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily tasks: vital signs, blood sugar testing, intake & output tracking, EKGs, and assisting with activities of daily living (bathing, positioning, feeding) under a licensed nurse’s direction.
  • Provide ongoing monitoring and interaction with patients.
  • Assess and document patient behavior according to policy and standards.
  • Assist patients with personal care, activities, current events, and safety issues.
  • Train patients on basic living skills aligned with their psychiatric rehabilitation goals.
  • Recognize and de-escalate crisis situations effectively.
  • Collaborate with the treatment team and model appropriate behavior (communication, grooming, manners).
  • Meet productivity standards and provide one-to-one coverage for patients on special status as assigned.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors.
  • Report accidents or driving violations to supervisors and HR.
  • Document patient progress, treatment goals, and services provided in a timely, clear, and concise manner.
  • Participate in performance improvement activities and committees as required.
  • Follow AltaPointe policies and procedures, attend in-service trainings, and seek supervision as needed.
  • Treat patients with care, dignity, and compassion while respecting privacy and confidentiality.
  • Assist patients and visitors as needed, maintaining sensitivity to individual needs and differences.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification in Alabama.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent standing, sitting, and walking in bursts of 5–10 minutes; extended pacing with patients may be required.
  • Occasional forward bending, squatting, or lunging from a standing position.
  • Maintain back extension while on stomach (body weight on hips/legs) for several minutes.
  • Occasionally support body weight on one knee and one elbow.
  • Kneel and reach toward the floor as needed.
  • Lift up to 10 pounds from floor to various levels (including overhead) occasionally during shift.
  • Lift up to 50 pounds to assist with Activities of Daily Living (floor to waist).
  • Strong grasp required for keys, restraint procedures, or hold techniques.
  • Push/pull up to 25 pounds occasionally during shift.
  • Ability to ambulate quickly (e.g., jog/run up to 0.1 miles) to assist with restraint procedures.
  • Physical activities may occur indoors or outdoors (e.g., games or therapy).
  • Complete assigned tasks in a timely manner.
