Responsibilities
- Deliver patient care with knowledge of patient growth and development, appropriate to the ages of patients served.
- Take and record vital signs (TPR, blood pressure) and report deviations to Primary or Charge Nurse.
- Obtain specimens as assigned (e.g., urine, stool, sputum).
- Weigh patients and record weight.
- Assist patients with activities of daily living, including skin care (e.g., bathing, dressing, ambulation).
- Record oral intake and urinary output.
- Perform assigned treatments (e.g., change simple dressings).
- Communicate effectively with Charge Nurse/Primary Nurse regarding patient needs and requests.
- Orient patients to their environment and develop rapport with patients, family, and significant others.
- Maintain cleanliness of patient and non-patient units (e.g., wipe tables, arrange storage rooms, pantries).
- Prepare bedside units for new admissions (e.g., stock with bedpan, tissues, water, cups).
- Apply principles of infection control and safety in the work environment.
- Report significant unit problems to the charge nurse.
- Maintain established departmental policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
- Assess gaps in policies and procedures and create necessary updates.
- Demonstrate customer service excellence: respect, flexibility, professionalism, patience, and helpfulness.
- Respond to all interactions in a timely, professional, caring, and respectful manner per Customer Service Performance expectations.
- Adhere to the Medical Center’s Code of Conduct and understand its Mission, Vision, and Values Statements.
- Utilize the hospital computer system as required for job responsibilities and in accordance with hospital policy.
- Participate in the orientation of new certified nursing assistants.
- Engage in unit committees and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities as assigned.
- Assist other personnel as necessary.
Requirements
- One year of experience as a Nurse’s Aide preferred.
- Technical skills required for patient care.
- Good oral and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to speak, read, and write English to the extent required by the position.
- Successful completion of an approved Nurse’s Aide training course.
- Heart Saver certification from the American Heart Association.
Job Setting / Physical Demands
- Work in all patient care areas with exposure to patients, visitors, and staff.
- Frequent prolonged standing and walking.
- Lift, position, push, and/or transfer patients.
- Wear protective clothing: face shield, gloves, impermeable gown, and particulate respirator.
Pay
Base pay range: $26.00–$28.75 per hour. Additional differentials: $1.15 for evening, night, and weekend shifts.
