Assists Physicians and nursing personnel in providing patient care to a specific patient population. Provides direct and indirect patient care duties under the guidance and direction of the Licensed Nurse.

Responsibilities

  • Collects specimens, runs lab tests, performs EKGs, Drug screen collection, and Breath Alcohols.
  • Performs clerical duties as assigned.
  • Participates in unit activities that enhance and promote quality patient care outcomes.
  • Documents and submits required information and data in a timely fashion.
  • Clearly and accurately documents designated processes, policies, products, service offerings, etc.
  • Ensures that documentation is tailored to expected readers/users, uses correct terminology, and conforms to required style and format.
  • Demonstrates technical skill in using equipment appropriate for role; understands equipment operation, maintains equipment in working order, and troubleshoots problems.
  • Uses technology to increase productivity and adapts to new technology.
  • Treats patients and families with compassion and implements plan of care.
  • Bases care decisions on plan of care, monitors and documents patient response, and adapts communication style to patient needs.
  • Recognizes age-specific responses to treatment and provides effective interventions.
  • Respects patients' confidentiality and privacy, and supports social, spiritual, and cultural needs.
  • Manages difficult or emotional patient situations.
  • Develops expected outcomes that provide direction for continuity of care, involving patient/family and other disciplines.
  • Modifies expected outcomes based on changes in patient assessment.
  • Includes the patient and others involved in the care in the evaluation process.
  • Evaluates the plan in relation to patient responses and expected outcomes, and documents the results.
  • Adheres to hospital and departmental attendance and punctuality guidelines.
  • Performs all job responsibilities in alignment with the core values, mission, and vision of the organization.
  • Performs other duties as required and completes all job functions as per departmental policies and procedures.
  • Maintains current knowledge in present areas of responsibility, including any specialty certification requirements.
  • Attends staff meetings and completes mandatory in-services, requirements, and competency evaluations on time.
  • Demonstrates competency in providing care to all patients based on age, sex, weight, and demonstrated needs.
  • Wears protective clothing and equipment as appropriate.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED (Required)
  • Vocational/Technical Degree in Medical Field (Preferred)
  • 1+ year Patient Care Experience in a health care setting (Preferred)

Qualifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification
