About the Role

Assists professional nursing personnel in providing patient care in a long-term acute care hospital. Supports patients with activities of daily living, personal care, emotional support, and performs clinical skills under the direction of professional nursing staff.

Responsibilities

  • Consults with and keeps supervisor informed of unit activities, needs, and problems related to patient care.
  • Provides general nursing care such as positioning the patient, lifting, turning, applying/utilizing special equipment, assisting with bed pan, urinal, or commode use, ambulating the patient, and providing preoperative and postoperative care.
  • Applies binders, anti-embolic stockings, administers bed baths, oral/hair/back care, changes bed linens, cleans over-bed tables and bedside stands, and straightens patient rooms.
  • Takes and records vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration), weight, height, blood pressure, and intake/output measurements accurately and documents in a timely manner.
  • Prepares patient rooms and beds for admissions, transfers, and ensures all necessary equipment is available.
  • Maintains a clean, comfortable, and well-ventilated patient environment.
  • Assists in patient admission, transfer, and discharge procedures, including handling patient belongings and personal property.
  • Responds to patient call lights, telephones, and paging systems as appropriate.
  • Performs routine treatment procedures (e.g., enemas, heat/cold applications) under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
  • Releases, removes, and reapplies patient restraints under RN supervision.
  • Assists with positioning and alignment of patients.
  • Supports RNs and LVNs/LPNs with complex patient treatment procedures.
  • Serves and removes patient meal trays, assists with feeding, and prepares food items (e.g., opening containers, cutting food).
  • Transports patients to and from various departments as requested.
  • Provides post-mortem care and assists in transporting bodies to the morgue or designated area.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Ability to organize tasks, develop action plans, set priorities, and function under stressful situations.
  • Ability to maintain positive working relationships within the department and with other departments.
  • Must read, write, and speak fluent English.
  • Good and regular attendance is required.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (including education equivalent to secondary school completion) or demonstrated ability to perform essential job functions. (Preferred)
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in the state of practice. (Preferred)
  • Basic Life Support (BCLS) certification (e.g., AHA or Red Cross) within a facility-specified time frame. (Required)
  • Minimum six months’ experience in an acute or long-term care facility preferred.

Pay

$23.00 per hour.
