Certified Nursing Assistant Employee Paid Residency Program (PCT) -Full Time and Part Time Opportunities Available November 9th, 2026
About the role
The Patient Care Technician (PCT) residency program is a unique paid 10-week program in partnership with the Delaware Skills Center, Dawn Career Institute, and Christiana Care Health System. It integrates classroom and clinical components, culminating in the Delaware State Test for Nurse Aide Certification and subsequent clinical training at Christiana Care.
Responsibilities
- Supports activities of daily living under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse.
- Performs assigned nursing duties for the comfort and well-being of patients.
- Responds to patient crisis situations and initiates interventions within the scope of responsibilities, notifying the RN.
- Performs finger sticks on patients, following all standard laboratory safety policies.
- Performs defined procedures on point-of-care instrumentation.
- Provides 1:1 observation for 1-2 patients experiencing psychiatric crises, suicidal/homicidal ideation, under the order of a physician in Powerchart.
- Provides 1:1 observation for 1-2 patients at risk for safety based on nursing assessment and order in Powerchart.
- Communicates to patients, employees, and physicians using courteous verbal and written communication skills.
- Completes mandatory in-service education.
- Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices; reports unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations to the supervisor promptly.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- BCLS Certification required, or acceptance into a Christiana Care approved Patient Care Technician training program.
Qualifications
- Demonstrates skills and knowledge necessary to provide care appropriate to patients in various stages of development.
- Works safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices.
- Communicates effectively utilizing verbal and written communication skills.
- Recognizes changes in patient status, takes appropriate action, and notifies the RN.
- Exercises judgment, tact, and diplomacy.
- Responds to patient crisis situations under the direction of the RN, following CCHS protocol.
- Demonstrates proficiency in basic computer skills.

Pay
Hourly Pay Range: $16.50 - $16.50. This pay rate/range represents Christiana Care’s good faith and reasonable estimate of compensation at the time of posting. The actual salary within this range offered to a successful candidate will depend on individual factors including without limitation skills, relevant experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements.
Schedule
Fully paid tuition, starting rate of pay is $16.50 hourly with healthcare benefits during the training, and working full-time/flex (36 hours weekly/72 hours bi-weekly) or Part time (24 hours bi-weekly) including every other weekend and rotating holidays (Day/Eve, Evening/Midnight, Day/Midnight and Straight Eve shifts with 8 and 12 hour rotations).
