Responsibilities
- Assist with performing patient assessments, interviewing patients about current health problems, medication history
- Taking vital signs including blood pressure, temperature, respiration, and weight
- Perform routine procedures under established protocols (to include but not limited to phlebotomy, EKG’s, dressing changes and wound cultures)
- Documenting medical history including medications, treatment and medical conditions
- Assisting with Activities of Daily Living (ADL) skills including bathing, dressing, feeding and mobility
- Providing basic wound care, basic laboratory tests, basic patient education and instructions
- Observing and reporting changes in patients’ physical or mental health to nurses
Qualifications
- CNA Certification - Completion of an accredited CNA training program and passing a state-approved competency exam
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Be able to obtain BLS CPR and first aid certification (AHA required)
- Must pass the facility’s criminal background check and drug screening
- Able to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information
- Display integrity, professionalism and be able to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
Physical Capabilities
- Must have the ability to stand for long periods
- Lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds)
- Bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances
- Perform physically demanding tasks like CPR, all while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift
