Certified Nursing Assistant/CNA - Oncology - PM shift

About the role

Performs as a Nursing Assistant within the care management team under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse. Performs delegated nursing tasks for which competence is demonstrated through the Nursing Assistant skills checklist.

Unit Description

HOT (Hematology, Oncology, and Transplant) Unit is a 24-bed unit where team members care for children with cancer or blood disorders and children undergoing bone marrow transplantation. Patients stay for an average range of 3-45 days.

Responsibilities

• Possesses and competently demonstrates core Nursing Assistant skills as outlined in the skill competency checklist and understands the role of performing delegated tasks.
• Possesses a willingness and the initiative to successfully complete educational requirements while developing and learning new skills as required by the unit.
• Possesses effective interpersonal and communication skills necessary to interact courteously and tactfully with patients, parents/families, and members of the health care team.
• Possesses rudimentary assessment and analytical skills in order to perform basic patient observations.

Requirements

• Currently registered with the State of Wisconsin Registry for Nursing Assistants to be eligible for employment in the basic provider settings.
• Current CPR certification - Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers through American Heart or American Red Cross is required.
• High School diploma or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED) or High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED) required.
• CNA-Certified Nurses Assistant - Wisconsin Department of Health Services.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

• Provides services in a setting where there is potential for exposure to blood and other high-risk body fluids, chemotherapy agents, communicable disease, and hazardous materials, chemicals, and waste.
• Requires frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and carrying/lifting up to 50 lbs.

Schedule

• Part-time PM shift (3:00pm-11:30pm) with weekday and weekend rotation.
• Required to work 2 shifts/week.
• Must be able to attend orientation on the following dates, with no exceptions:
  • October 26: 8:00am-3:30pm
  • October 27: 8:00am-4:30pm
  • October 29: 8:00am-4:30pm
  • November 9: 8:00am-4:30pm
