Purpose Statement
Riverview is the premier psychiatric center in Texarkana, Arkansas, offering comprehensive inpatient care for adults, geriatrics, and adolescents (ages 11-17) dealing with behavioral health and chemical dependency issues.
Essential Functions
- Ensure the well-being of patients and maintain a positive, supportive, and structured environment, under the direction of charge nurse or supervisor.
- Address patient safety through complete patient observation rounds, conducted every 15 minutes, within easy reach of the patient or 1:1 care.
- Ensure patient rooms are clean and uncluttered.
- Aid in transferring, lifting, raising, or turning patients.
- Obtain and document patient’s vital signs, height, and weight as assigned.
- Identify oneself to patients and visitors promptly and respond to their requests quickly.
- Engage with patients in activities and interactions aimed at achieving treatment goals.
- Respond to distressed patients in a non-threatening manner and attempt to understand the source of distress.
- Apply de-escalation techniques to help manage patient emotions, behavior, and participation in treatment and assist with seclusion and restraints when necessary.
- Maintain behavioral improvements and report significant changes to the nurse immediately.
- Reinforce skills learned from nurses, physicians, and therapists that promote improved physical and mental wellness.
- Ensure patient comfort, dignity, privacy, and perform related CNA duties such as feeding, bathing, dressing, grooming, moving patients, or changing linens.
- Provide transfer or transportation for patients or coordinate transportation with appropriate staff members, as required.
- Adhere to work schedule and overall attendance.
- Follow established policies, procedures, and standards for patient care.
- Clean the unit as assigned by professional staff, including equipment such as beds, IV poles, and wheelchairs.
- Document timely, accurate, and appropriate clinical information in the patient's medical record.
- Collaborate with other staff in treating and rehabilitating the population of the facility.
- Demonstrate a positive, empathetic, and professional attitude towards customers always.
- Communicate clearly and effectively with patients, family members, guests, and other members of the healthcare team.
Significant Changes
Significant changes are reported to the nurse immediately.
Other Functions
- Perform other functions and tasks as assigned.
Education/Experience/Skill Requirements
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Additional education or training resulting in certification as a nursing assistant per state requirements is required.
- Previous experience in a behavioral health setting is preferred.
Licenses/Designations/Certifications
- A current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification or license, per state requirements, is required.
- CPR and de-escalation/restraint certification are required (training available upon hire and offered by the facility).
- First aid may be required based on state or facility regulations.
