Responsibilities

• Assist residents with bathing, toileting, oral hygiene, skin care, grooming, nail care, and dressing.
• Feed residents, provide bedside water, offer snacks, and transfer residents to and from dining areas in compliance with their nutritional plan of care.
• Answer resident call lights and respond to requests for assistance promptly and according to facility policy.
• Maintain resident rooms by making beds, changing linens, cleaning bedside tables, and organizing personal belongings.
• Observe and report changes in residents’ appetite, skin condition, or behaviors according to facility policy.
• Offer emotional support and actively listen to residents to help them develop trust and achieve independence in daily living.
• Maintain confidentiality of all residents and their care to protect their rights and privacy.
• Document care in medical records, including vitals and assistance provided, in accordance with facility policy.
• Comply with safety requirements, infection control measures, and maintain a clean work environment.
• Assist licensed nurses with procedures within the scope of practice for a nurse aide.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED (unless working under a student permit).
• Certified by the Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) as a CNA in good standing. CNAs transferring from another state may work for 120 days while awaiting Indiana certification. Graduating CNA students may also work for 120 days while awaiting certification.
• Basic computer skills, including knowledge of programs such as Excel and Word.
• Thorough understanding of the principles of safe and effective nursing practices within the State of Indiana.

• Discretion in protecting the integrity of confidential information and compliance with HIPAA.
• Patience, a cheerful disposition, enthusiasm, and willingness to work with residents at their current maturity and physical level.
• Adherence to a professional code of ethics.
• Ability to relay information about a resident’s condition to appropriate staff members.
