Certified Medical Assistant - Westbury

Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED (foreign equivalent or higher)
• Certified Medical Assistant
• Three (3) years of full-time medical office experience
• Experience with recording patient/client vital signs

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree (foreign equivalent or higher)
• Phlebotomy certified
• Experience performing spirometry and EKGs

Brief Description Of Duties

The Stony Brook WTC Health Program offers comprehensive, integrative healthcare of 9/11-related illnesses for WTC disaster responders. The Certified Medical Assistant will maintain a safe, secure and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations. The successful Medical Assistant will have excellent customer service skills and will treat every patient with care and compassion. This position requires a responsible individual who can commit to being at work on time and who has excellent attendance, as well as an individual with patience who can handle assisting Providers in a busy clinic. Must consider opportunities to develop job knowledge and skills by participating in training and educational opportunities as suggested by supervision.

Duties

• Perform phlebotomy, spirometry and EKGs
• Perform and record blood pressure, weight and temperature
• Manage smooth flow of patients from check-in to exam room to check-out
• Document patient notes accurately in charts as required
• Document medications, patient history and vital signs in EMR
• Access Computer programs to obtain results, as necessary
• Aid RN, LPNs and clerical staff with front and back office activities such as: respond to patient phone calls, chart paperwork, etc.
• Provide patient education services as needed
• Counsel patients by transmitting physician's orders and questions about the WTC program
• Maintain a clean and healthy environment in the exam rooms of the ambulatory care space

The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA Non-Exempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. The incumbent must be willing to work and travel between the Westbury and Commack clinic locations.
