Responsibilities
- Interviews patients to collect and document history of present illness (HPI), medication reconciliation, history of allergies.
- Performs vital sign measurement and any standard testing per clinic procedures.
- Captures and documents patient information into electronic medical recordkeeping system (EMR).
- Coordinates and performs follow-on procedures as directed by a provider, including but not limited to onsite testing, specimen collection, and wound care.
- Aids in provider-performed procedures such as suture application or splinting.
- Communicates with patients in a timely and effective manner regarding their care.
- Notifies patients of test and lab results.
- Patiently and clearly explains practice policies and procedures using cultural competency and active listening.
- Maintains and monitors consumable supplies and medications for effective ongoing clinical operations.
- Promotes a safe, clean and secure clinical environment for all, including the application of standard precautions and principles of infection control.
Requirements
- Must hold a current Medical Assistant certification.
- Accepted forms of the credential are:
- Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) as issued by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA)
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) as issued by American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
- Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) as issued by the American Medical Technologists (AMT)
- Medical Assistant (NCMA) as issued by the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) as issued by the American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA)
