About the role
Medical Assistants are the backbone of our care teams. They play a vital, hands‑on role in ensuring every patient receives safe, compassionate, and seamless care. From preparing patients for their visit to supporting providers during clinical procedures, MAs are often the first and last point of connection in a patient’s experience. Their attention to detail, clinical skills, and ability to build trust with patients make them essential to our mission.
Responsibilities
- Maintains patient medical records, updating patient medical history, current status including vital signs, medical treatments and medication provided.
- Reviews and updates patient immunization records.
- Prepares for patient visits by reviewing the patient file, including requests for labs, referrals and correspondence, and verifying that necessary reports are present.
- Provides updates to Provider team as needed and collaborates with Providers to ensure efficiency of schedules and continuity of care.
- Prepares and maintains patient exam rooms, ensuring that appropriate supplies are in the room and that necessary equipment is present and sterilized.
- Prepares patient for examinations, explains medical treatment procedures as needed, and provides limited education and/or coaching for patients within scope.
- Instructs patients about medication and possible allergic reactions; responds to patients’ questions and concerns in person and via email exchange, directing inquiries outside of scope to appropriate personnel.
- Assists physician during examinations, procedures, treatments, and minor office surgeries; anticipates Providers’ needs and manages their requests.
- Collects and prepares laboratory specimens, completes screenings, collects and reviews patient data per protocol, and follows up on test results as directed by healthcare Providers.
- Documents specimens collected and results in electronic medical record (EMR).
- Prepares and administers medication as directed by a physician.
- Performs clinical responsibilities in alignment with The Joint Commission (TJC), Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), and YVFWC requirements.
Requirements
- Minimum of a high school diploma or GED that is accredited by a regional or national accrediting agency approved by the US Department of Education.
- One year’s experience as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) preferred.
- Completion of one of the following:
- Graduation from a medical assisting program (one-year certificate/diploma or two-year Associate Degree) accredited by CAAHEP or ABHES, including at least 720 hours of training with at least 160 hours in a clinical externship;
- Graduation from an apprentice program approved by the state;
- At least 720 hours of Medical Assistant college education; or
- Equivalent amount of military training related to medical assisting.
- Currently a certified MA, or eligible to take the certification exam.
- CPR certification required within 90 days of hire; certifications must be maintained and remain current.
Qualifications
- Medical knowledge for understanding theories, reasons, and technical aspects of medicine.
- Strong people skills to handle different personalities, backgrounds and personal situations.
- Strong multi-tasking ability to handle the variety and pace of work.
- Basic proficiency with a variety of computer programs including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Epic and EMR.
- Spanish-speaking skills preferred at a level 10 (eligible for bilingual differential compensation when an ALTA score of 10 is achieved).

$22.73–$33.47/hour, depending on experience.
Schedule
Part time, non-exempt.
Hiring/Retention Bonus
- At hire: $750.00
- At 180 days (6 months): $1,000.00
- At 12 months: $750.00
- Bonus will be pro-rated based on Full Time Equivalency (FTE).
