About the Role
The certified Medical Assistant utilizes a defined skill set consistent with the basic educational program, certification, and relevant work experience to deliver direct care to the patient in the ambulatory setting. They work under the direct supervision/licensure of the physician, serving as an integral member of the health care team.
Responsibilities
- Provides care to the patient and supports the physician throughout the entire visit, from arrival at the reception desk to completion of the check-out process.
- Assists with history taking, routine tasks and procedures, telephone messaging, scheduling, and visit follow-up orders.
- Works under the supervision of a registered professional nurse when additional skill, assessment, and expertise are needed, or in the absence of the physician.
- Administers medication and coordinates care with other health care professionals and ancillary departments/services.
Requirements
- High School Diploma plus training acquired through work experience or education.
- Specify Degree(s): Successful completion of accredited medical assistant program.
- Minimum Experience: At least one year of previous job-related experience.
Qualifications
- Must possess at least one (1) of the following Medical Assistant credentials within six (6) months of hire:
- American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
- American Medical Technologists (AMT)
- National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
- National Healthcareer Association (NHA)
Skills
- CPR/BLS by the American Heart Association – upon hire.
