About the Role
Under the assessment and supervision of a Registered Nurse and according to established policies and procedures, this role performs patient care activities to assist healthcare providers in delivering various technical and clinical procedures in the patient care area. The position requires the knowledge, skill, and ability to provide basic care for neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patient populations.
Responsibilities
- Completes patient intake and discharge under the supervision of a physician, NP, and/or RN.
- Completes appropriate documentation in the medical record (paper and EMR).
- Performs technical tasks as authorized, including checking vital signs, collecting routine specimens, performing ECG and phlebotomy.
- Assists providers with procedures.
- Responds to emergency situations promptly and precisely, assisting other healthcare providers as needed.
- Informs physicians, NPs, or RNs of patient symptoms, reactions, progress, and other pertinent information.
- Documents information in the medical record according to policies and procedures.
- Presents a positive appearance and attitude, demonstrating excellent guest relations, interpersonal skills, and team values.
- Observes and maintains patient, staff, and corporate confidentiality per policies and procedures.
- Performs other duties as requested.
Requirements
- Demonstrates ability to read, write, follow verbal or written instructions, and perform simple mathematical calculations.
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- AAMA or AMT Medical Assistant certification preferred upon hire and required within six months of hire date.
- Maintains BCLS certification.
- Completes orientation to acquire familiarity with LMHS policies, procedures, and patient care techniques.
- Demonstrates ability to assist in the care of pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients under supervision.
- Demonstrates knowledge, skill, and ability to perform: phlebotomy, ECG, vital signs, ear lavage, monofilament testing, glucometer use, occult blood testing, visual and auditory acuity assessments, strep screen, urinalysis, urine pregnancy tests, and specimen collection and preparation.
- Competency with personal computer usage and medical record documentation.
