Responsibilities
- Affords assistance to the provider with treatment of patients in the office.
- Handles administrative and nursing duties related to patient care.
- Maintains a high quality of care within an office setting.
- Performs general nursing duties.
- Assesses patients' general condition and takes vital signs and history.
- Assists physicians with examinations, diagnostic procedures, and treatments.
- Documents all activities, interventions, and medications in the patient record.
- Obtains pre-certifications, pre-authorizations, and referrals from insurance companies.
- Promotes wellness by providing patient education materials, communicating physician advice and instructions.
- Handles critical lab values and promptly seeks physician orders.
- Schedule outside referrals.
- Assists with medical procedures.
- Answers telephones.
- Schedules patients for office visits and/or hospital tests.
- Sends prescriptions into pharmacies.
- Calls patients with test results.
- Affords assistance in the treatment and care of patients in the office.
- Maintains exam rooms and other patient areas for the physician to examine the patients.
- Ensures safety, infection control, and other policies and procedures are followed in the office.
- Performs routine office laboratory procedures.
- Maintains equipment and supplies needed for patient care.
- Answers the phones.
- Triage telephone patient care issues directly to clinic provider.
- Adheres to Corporate Policies, JCAHO, Rural Health, Departmental Policies and Procedures, and Personnel Employee Handbook.
- Demonstrates professionalism and accountability.
- Fosters an atmosphere of teamwork and collaboration.
- Fills in during coworkers' absence.
- Covers for other nursing personnel when they are not here and completes the full range of duties.
- Cover other areas as needed.
- Performs general receptionist duties including but not limited to answering phones, scheduling patients, preparing cash receipts, registering patients, and entering daily charges.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Must have a valid state license as a Certified Medical Assistant or Licensed Practical Nurse.
- Experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and procedures.
- Basic computer skills.
