About the role
Rivers Health is seeking a full-time Certified Medical Assistant or Licensed Practical Nurse for the General Surgery Office.
Responsibilities
- Assists the provider with treatment of patients in the office, handles administrative and nursing duties related to patient care.
- Maintains a high quality of care within an office setting.
- Perform general nursing duties.
- Assess patients’ general condition and take vital signs and History.
- Aid physicians with examinations, diagnostic procedures and treatments.
- Document all activities, interventions and medications in the patient record.
- Obtain pre-certifications, pre-authorizations and referrals from insurance companies.
- Promote wellness by providing patient education materials, communicating physician advice and instructions.
- Handle critical lab values and promptly seek physician orders.
- Schedule outside referrals.
- Assist with medical procedures.
- Answer telephone.
- Schedule patients for office visits and/or hospital tests.
- Sending prescriptions into pharmacy.
- Call patients with test results.
- Assist the physicians in the treatment and care of the patients in the office.
- Maintain exam rooms and other patient areas for the physician to examine the patients.
- Ensure safety, infection control and other policies and procedures are followed in the office.
- Perform routine office laboratory procedures.
- Maintain equipment and supplies needed for patient care.
- Answer the phones.
- Triage telephone patient care issues directly to clinic provider.
- Adhere to Corporate Policies, JCAHO, Rural Health, Departmental Policies and Procedures, and Personnel Employee Handbook.
- Demonstrate professionalism and accountability.
- Foster an atmosphere of teamwork and collaboration.
- Filling in during co-workers absence.
- Cover for other nursing personnel when they are not here and complete full range of duties.
- Cover other areas as needed.
- Perform general receptionist duties including but not limited to answering phones, scheduling patients, preparing cash receipts, registering patients, and entering daily charges.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Requires a minimum of 1 year of experience in a medical office setting.
Must have a valid license to practice as a CMA or LPN.
Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
Must be able to pass a background check.
Must be able to pass a drug screen.
Must be able to pass CPR certification.
