About the Role
The Certified Medical Assistant works closely with the primary care physician to deliver excellent patient care, ensuring services are provided within the Medical Assisting scope and state guidelines. The role involves reviewing and updating health records, measuring vital signs, and preparing treatment rooms for upcoming examinations.
Responsibilities
- Provides excellent customer service by greeting patients and the community in a respectful manner
- Prepares and reviews patient charts for upcoming visits by verifying that all diagnostic test results, hospital reports, and other medical records are correct and up to date
- Measures vital signs such as pulse rate, respiration, blood pressure, weight, and height
- Performs departmental-related clerical duties such as checking inventory, stocking supplies, tracking referrals, and answering phones as needed
- Possesses the ability to troubleshoot and resolve problems promptly
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Active Medical Assisting certification from one of the following (required): Certified Medical Assistant (CMA); American Association of Medical Assisting, Registered Medical Assistant (RMA); American Medical Technologists, Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA); National Healthcareer Association (NHA); Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA); National Association for Health Professionals, National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA); National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
- If unable to obtain MA certification, an Assessment-Based Recognition in Order Entry (ABR-OE) is acceptable
- BLS Basic Life Support, American Heart Association (required at hire for Roper St Francis Healthcare locations; preferred at hire, required prior to independent patient care at BSMH)
Experience
- One year of medical assistant healthcare experience (preferred)
- Two years of clerical experience in a physician’s office (preferred)
Skills
- Problem-solving skills

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to engage with staff and patients in a professional manner
Pay
Range: $19.03 – $28.54
