Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) - Pediatric Orthopedic Clinic - Days

About the Role

The Certified Medical Assistant provides direct, age-specific care to a patient or group of patients based on medical orders and the plan of care under the direction of the physician.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care, emotional support, and problem solving under the direction of a licensed independent practitioner, manager, and/or RN in accordance with hospital, nursing, and unit policy/procedure.
• Handle, transport, access, and/or contact medications and related supplies.
• Requires prior approval or guidance from supervisor for time/schedule changes, legal issues, directed care that deviates from standard, and identifying educational resources to meet developmental needs.

Requirements

Licensure, Certification, or Registration

• Current Medical Assistant Certification through a recognized national professional association such as the American Association of Medical Assistants, the American Medical Technologists, The National Association of Healthcare Professions, the American Registry of Medical Assistants, or the National Healthcare Association (required for hire and continued employment).
• AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent.

Experience

• Required:
  • One (1) year of medical assistant work experience within the last three (3) years if not a graduate of a medical assistant program.
  • No work experience required if a graduate of a medical assistant program.
  • Previous experience using a personal computer and various software applications, including Microsoft, email, etc.
  • Demonstrated experience utilizing strong organizational, problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Preferred:
  • Two (2) to three (3) years of previous experience as a Certified Medical Assistant.
  • Previous experience in an academic healthcare environment.

Education/Training

• Required: High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Preferred: Graduation from a Medical Assisting training program from an accredited program of study such as the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES).

Schedule

Certified Medical Assistants work all three shifts, weekends, and holidays. Individual shift rotation and schedules will be established with your specific Nurse Manager/Practice Manager. Schedules, including requirements of shift rotations and hours of work, may be adjusted as necessary to meet clinic requirements.
