Certified Hyperbaric Technologist
Job Summary
The Hyperbaric Technician of TriStar StoneCrest Medical Center Wound Care, under the general supervision of the Hyperbaric Physician and the direct supervision of the Clinical Manager, will assume responsibility for the safe and effective operation of the compression chamber system and supporting components. All therapeutic and diagnostic modalities will be ordered by the Hyperbaric Physician. The Hyperbaric Technician will also be responsible for performing maintenance activities of the hyperbaric chamber(s) and associated systems and equipment, as directed. In addition, he/she will report to the Center HBO Safety Director with respect to safety issues and/or concerns.
Qualifications
- Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date(CHS)
- Certified Hyperbaric Specialist, or (CHT) Certified Hyperbaric Technologist, or Associate Degree, or Bachelors Degree
- No Experience Required
What you will do in this role
The Technician will be able to demonstrate the following essential competencies, duties and responsibilities as a result of an initial orientation and education, experience, and ongoing learning. The Technician will be expected to:
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of the policies and procedures of TriStar StoneCrest Medical Center competency workbook to be completed within 90 days of hire date.
- Implement the physician's orders as indicated by the patient's treatment plan.
- Verify that the patient's diagnosis is one of the appropriate approved conditions for Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT), through consultation with the hyperbaric physician, and that supporting documentation is present in the patient's medical record.
- Prepare the hyperbaric chamber, equipment and materials needed for patients undergoing hyperbaric oxygen treatments.
- Evaluate equipment/supplies used in the chamber and ensure that they meet hospital Biomedical department requirements as well as all safety requirements before they are permitted inside the chamber.
- Educate patient and family, if appropriate, as to the benefits, risks, contraindications, and safety issues of HBOT before treatment.
- Inspect the patient prior to the commencement of each HBOT session to ensure all safety standards are being adhered to, i.e. appropriate attire, no makeup, no hairspray, etc.
- Perform blood glucose monitoring, within scope of practice, as ordered and indicated.
- Perform quality control daily on department glucometer, per hospital policy.
- Operate the compression chamber and supporting components and maintain operating, maintenance, safety logs and other required documentation, as specified in department policy.
- Monitor the patient and report any adverse reactions the patient may be experiencing during the treatment to the physician.
