Job Summary and Qualifications
The CSTFA serves as a technical assistant to the physician/registered nurse during surgical procedures in the Surgical Suite. Key responsibilities include:
- Assisting the surgeon in performing safe operations
- Developing and improving surgical skills
- Utilizing economy in time, motion, and materials
- Applying aseptic technique and infection control principles
- Using necessary surgical equipment and supplies
- Retracting, suctioning, irrigating, applying pressure, and maintaining homeostasis
- Actively offering assistance to colleagues
Qualifications include:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) by an accredited agency
- Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSTFAC)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Acute care clinical experience
- Experience in surgery as a CST
- Experience in CVOR
- Minimum 1 year vein harvesting experience
- Preferred experience as a Surgical First Assistant
