About the role
Richard Milburn Academy seeks a High School ESE Teacher for the 2026/2027 School Year! The position requires a Bachelor’s Degree or higher in an educational field or the equivalent as defined by Florida Administrative rules, and a valid Florida Educator Certificate in Exceptional Student Education. Endorsements in Autism Spectrum Disorder, Gifted, Orientation and Mobility, Severe or Profound Disabilities, and Reading are preferred based on class composition.
Responsibilities
- Help students become proficient in challenging standards and meet all state and local requirements for achievement.
- Teach diligently and conscientiously, using prescribed materials and methods, including technology-based instruction.
- Keep records and prepare and submit reports required by law, the school board, and/or the principal/administrator.
- Maintain a valid Florida educator’s certificate as required by state law and state board of education regulations.
- Perform those duties that are necessary for the diligent and conscientious instruction of students.
- Use prescribed and otherwise appropriate materials and methods.
- Conform to all laws/and all school board, school and division policies and procedures.
- Absorb and enforce laws, rules, and policy regarding the Volusia County Schools Code of Student Conduct, and those of Florida, including the authority to use alternatives.
- Attend staff meetings and in-service training as needed for job enhancement.
- Maintain knowledge of each student’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP), Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) and Educational Plan (EP) as appropriate and ensure such legal documents are implemented with fidelity as determined by the IEP or EP committee.
- Collect and report progress monitoring data of students with IEPs and BIPs and have data available for each IEP meeting.
- Develop IEP goals and objectives for students staffed into the ESE program.
- Report Present Levels of Performance on schedule required by district and dictated by state and federal requirements.
- Provide training and support to general education teachers regarding implementation of IEPs and accommodations.
- Maintain and ensure accuracy of educational records of students with disabilities, including logs of supports/services and progress monitoring data.
- Maintain confidentiality in personally identifiable information obtained in the course of professional service, unless disclosure serves professional purpose or is required by law.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Principal.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher in an educational field or the equivalent as defined by Florida Administrative rules.
- Hold or be eligible to hold a valid Florida Educator Certificate in Exceptional Student Education.
- Endorsements in Autism Spectrum Disorder, Gifted, Orientation and Mobility, Severe or Profound Disabilities, and Reading as appropriate (dependent on class composition).
- Demonstrates competence in administrative and supervisory requirements.
- Demonstrates competence in the techniques to analyze the needs and potential of individuals.
- Demonstrates competence in instructional procedures.
- Demonstrates competence in communication skills.
- Demonstrates competence in student management techniques.
- Demonstrates knowledge within the area of specialization to a degree consistent with the educator’s professional preparation.
- Demonstrates competence in the techniques used to evaluate learning and goal achievement.
- Demonstrates competence in human and interpersonal relations skills.
- Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively to accomplish the required task.
- Ability to perform required tasks with sufficient intellectual ability.
- Ability to attend staff meetings and in-service training as needed.
- Expertise in specially designed instruction, collaborative practices, differentiated curriculum and instruction, and classroom management.
- Expertise in assessment, data analysis and the use of data to drive instruction.
- Remain current in instructional initiatives, research and best practices.
