About the role
This class is accountable for planning and providing for appropriate learning experiences for students; providing an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of individuals to ensure Success for Every Student.
Responsibilities
- Aids in the implementation of all policies and rules governing student life and conduct.
- Develops and implements classroom rules and procedures.
- Maintains classroom order and discipline.
- Communicates and interacts with students, parents, staff, and community.
- Creates a classroom environment that promotes student involvement in the learning process.
- Selects and modifies instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students.
- Diagnoses learning disabilities and seeks assistance from central staff as needed.
- Develops and implements learning objectives consistent with student needs and District curriculum framework.
- Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law, District policy, and administrative regulation.
- Maintains appropriate records and follows required procedures and practices.
- Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day.
- Monitors and evaluates student outcomes.
- Maintains appropriate use and care of equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
- Participates in school management and shares responsibility for the total school program.
- Plans a program of study that meets the needs, interests, and abilities of individuals.
- Supervises students in a variety of school-related settings.
- Takes all necessary and safety precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Attends school meetings, programs, and activities outside the instructional day.
- Performs related work as required.
Requirements
General Experience: Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college. Special Requirements: Employment in this class is conditional upon possession of a valid Connecticut State Board of Education teaching certificate/endorsement(s) 015 English, 7-12. Incumbents in this class may be required to possess and retain a current Motor Vehicle operator’s license.
Qualifications
Continuing Education Requirements: Teachers in this job class must complete all State CEU requirements for re-certification.
