Certified Drug & Alcohol Counselor

About the Role

Under the administrative supervision of the Program Director or designee, this position provides psychosocial, rehabilitation, and recovery-oriented services for adults. The role focuses on counseling and aiding clients and families dealing with substance abuse problems, such as alcohol or drug abuse, and serves as a Personal Service Coordinator for a caseload of dually diagnosed clients.

Responsibilities

• Assists clients in identifying and progressing toward their chosen goals.
• Advocates for clients in all areas of treatment and helps them apply for and receive services.
• Provides prompt intervention in the event of a crisis, both to stop the crisis and to notify, when indicated, persons and agencies necessary for resolution.
• Interviews clients, reviews records, and confers with other professionals.
• Formulates programs for treatment and rehabilitation of clients, including facilitation of support groups.
• Counsels clients individually and in group sessions to assist in overcoming alcohol and drug dependency.
• Counsels family members to assist the family in dealing with and providing client support.
• Refers clients to other support services as needed, such as medical evaluation and treatment, social services, and employment services.
• Monitors the condition of the client to evaluate the success of therapy and adapts treatment as needed.
• Prepares and maintains reports and case histories.
• Formulates and conducts programs to promote the prevention of alcohol and drug abuse.
• Safely transports clients and other passengers to and from appointments and activities using a personal vehicle.
• Drives on agency business using a personal vehicle; may transport clients, equipment, protected health information (PHI), and/or confidential personnel or agency information.
• Provides support and training for other staff members as needed.
• Adheres to and upholds the policies and procedures of Turning Point Community Programs.
• Attends staff meetings unless approval for non-attendance is secured from the Team Leader or Program Director.

Requirements

• Valid CADAC license.
• California driver’s license and current vehicle insurance/registration if driving.
• Reliable means of transportation capable of passing vehicle safety inspection if more than five years old (excluding all modes of two-wheeled transport, including bicycles, mopeds, and motorcycles).

Qualifications

A typical way of obtaining the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is through possession of a CADAC license and varied experience working with dually diagnosed adults (substance abuse and psychiatric disability).

Schedule

Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM.

Pay

$24.00 - $25.98 hourly.
