CERTIFIED CODER- CLINIC

About the Role

Classify medical data from patient records to assign ICD-9-CM and CPT codes for each diagnosis and procedure. Coordinates with Team Leader on coding audits to ensure compliance with federal and state standards. Educates and trains new coders. Understand principles of grouping for DRGs and APCs. Demonstrate knowledge of reimbursement guidelines.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma (Required)
• Associate's Degree in Health Information Management (Preferred)
• 1 or more years of ICD-9-CM and CPT coding (Preferred)
• 1 or more years experience requiring broad knowledge of medical terminology, disease processes, and pharmacology (Preferred)
• Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or CCS (Certified Coding Specialist) (Required)

Responsibilities

• Codes assigned medical records accurately and timely to ensure accurate reimbursement.
• Assigns ICD-9-CM codes, CPT codes, and modifiers for all diagnoses and procedures to ensure appropriate reimbursement and statistical capture of data.
• Codes records timely to maintain DNFB at established levels.
• Assigns POA indicators as appropriate.
• Adheres to hospital and departmental attendance and punctuality guidelines.
• Performs job responsibilities in alignment with organizational core values, mission, and vision.
• Maintains current knowledge through self-education and attendance at ongoing educational programs.
• Attends staff meetings, completes mandatory in-services, and competency evaluations on time.
• Demonstrates competency in providing care to all patients based on age, sex, weight, and demonstrated needs.
• For non-clinical areas, attends training and demonstrates usage of age-specific customer service skills.
• Wears protective clothing and equipment as appropriate.
