Responsibilities

• Review and abstract patient medical records to assign accurate diagnoses, treatments, and surgical procedure codes for professional services.
• Ensure all documented services in medical records are coded with appropriate diagnoses and procedure codes.
• Utilize the query process when services are not documented appropriately.
• Enter codes into the practice management system and rectify errors in preprocessor and post-processor editing systems.
• Provide education to providers based on periodic audit results while maintaining professionalism.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of CPT-4, ICD-10, HCPCS coding principles, modifier usage, medical terminology, governmental regulations, and third-party payer requirements for billing, coding, and documentation.
• Meet or exceed a daily productivity average set by supervisor/management.

Requirements

• Must reside in the Middle Tennessee, Columbia, or Knoxville area.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience in coding.
• Certification as CPC or CCS-P.
• Strong working knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy.
