About the role
This role involves supporting children and their families in understanding illness, hospitalization, and outpatient procedures to reduce stress and anxiety. The specialist assesses individual needs, develops personalized care plans, and implements evidence-based interventions in collaboration with the healthcare team.
Responsibilities
- Assess child and family needs; create and adjust care plans accordingly
- Implement interventions to achieve positive patient outcomes
- Document progress and modify care strategies as needed
- Participate in interdisciplinary team efforts, advocating for patients and utilizing resources effectively
- Educate patients and families using age-appropriate, culturally sensitive teaching strategies
- Promote safety and adhere to hospital policies
- Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and patient satisfaction efforts
- Engage in professional development and share clinical knowledge
Qualifications
- Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS) or eligible within one year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Bachelor’s Degree in Child Development or related field with required coursework
- Completion of a 600-hour child life internship
