About the role

As a Visiting Angels Certified At Home Caregiver, you'll enrich the quality of life of clients and support their wellness according to custom care plans. You will work under a Registered Nurse with no supervision responsibilities and have HIPAA-restricted access to client information. This is an hourly, per-diem, non-exempt Direct Care position with no guaranteed minimum hours per week. Advanced training opportunities in dementia and Alzheimer’s care are available.

Responsibilities

• Help clients with personal care and hygiene
• Assist clients with light physical exercise or walks
• Plan and prepare meals with clients
• Handle light housekeeping duties
• Report health changes or unusual incidents
• Provide pleasant, supportive companionship
• Respond quickly and responsibly in emergencies
• Accompany and supervise clients during shopping trips
• Remind clients to take prescription medications appropriately
• Assist with mobility and ambulation both at home and during appointments or errands

Requirements

• Valid certification as a Home Health Aide (HHA), licensed by the New Jersey State Board of Nursing
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Preferred: Valid Driver’s License, car insurance, and a reliable personal vehicle for transporting clients
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Excellent time-management skills and ability to juggle multiple duties
• Reliable transportation to travel to and from client homes
• Physical endurance for tasks such as carrying groceries and supporting clients
• Comfortable performing housekeeping and cooking duties while adhering to dietary constraints
• Willingness to comply with state and office-specific health and safety standards (e.g., background check)
• Compassion, understanding, and a desire to brighten clients’ days
• Ability to perform patient observation accurately and respond promptly to changing health conditions
