Certified Anesthesiologist Assistant (CAA) – Children’s Ambulatory Center

About the role

Summey Medical Pavilion OR platform consists of 4 OR suites and 2 minor procedure rooms covering surgical specialties including ENT, Orthopedics, Ophthalmology, Dental, Urology, Plastics, General Surgery and Endoscopy. Currently, all procedures serve the pediatric population up to age 18, as well as some women's services. The anesthesia staff on site consist of MDAs, CRNAs, AAs and Anesthesia Residents. All surgery is performed on an outpatient basis. The ambulatory surgery facilities are part of the MUSC Magnet designation, Joint Commission Accredited and uphold the highest level of pediatric care possible. The purpose of the Certified Anesthesiology Assistant is to provide perioperative management of patients where anesthesia services are indicated.

Responsibilities

• Perform pre‑operative, intra‑operative, and post‑operative evaluation of patients requiring anesthetized surgical and non‑surgical procedures.
• Administer appropriate anesthetics within the framework of a written practice protocol developed for the anesthesiologist’s assistant with the attending anesthesiologists, consistent with standards of practice.
• Demonstrate thorough familiarity with anesthesia machines and related equipment.
• Assist in transport of patients.
• Maintain adequate patient records.
• Participate in department teaching activities
