Responsibilities
- Comply with the Community’s personnel, safety, and corporate policies and procedures.
- Comply with the nursing department’s policies and procedures.
- Report witnessed or reported allegations of resident abuse/neglect immediately to the Executive Director, RCC/Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse.
- Treat residents, family members, visitors, and team members with respect and dignity.
- Maintain the confidentiality of all resident and family information.
- Report to work on time and as scheduled.
- Report any complaints/grievances made by residents to the RCC/Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse or per policy.
- Participate and cooperate with any Community surveys (inspections) made by authorized government agencies.
- Maintain a clean and organized medication cart and medication room.
- Protect resident privacy when administering medication; knock before entering the resident’s room.
- Accurately and safely prepare, administer, and document oral and/or topical medications as ordered by the attending physician or Medical Director.
- Document and report errors in medication administration immediately upon discovery.
- Ensure all administered medications are properly labeled and stored according to Community policy.
- Complete medication charting per Community policy and procedure.
- Assist with following Community policies regarding the destruction of medications.
- Assist in documenting and removing medications discontinued by the attending physician.
- Follow Community procedures for drug receipt errors, including notifying the delivery source and RCC/Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse.
- Follow Community procedures for holding medications for residents who are out of the Community or per physician’s order.
- Honor the resident’s right to refuse medications and document refusals or reactions.
- Observe and verify medication ingestion or application as directed.
- Document instances where prescribed medication is not administered, including reasons for refusal.
- Promptly notify the RCC/Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse of refusals or reactions to medications.
- Ensure no medication is administered without a written, signed, and dated order from a licensed physician.
- Verify resident identity before administering medication.
- Follow Community procedures for residents who self-administer medications and assist in monitoring/documenting such self-administration.
- Notify the nurse when medication refills are needed.
- Be familiar with common medical abbreviations, symbols, and terms used in medication administration.
- Use personal protective equipment during procedures involving exposure to blood or body fluids.
- Report all hazardous conditions and equipment to the RCC/Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse immediately.
- Follow established safety precautions in performing all duties.
- Wash hands before and after performing any service for the resident.
- Report occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and hazardous chemicals per Community policies.
- Assist residents with daily hygiene, toileting, and other daily living activities.
- Assist Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) with daily duties when needed.
Requirements
- Valid Certified Medication Aide (CMA) certification in good standing with the State.
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
- Ability to work beyond normal working hours, weekends, and holidays when necessary.
- Ability to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
- Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Ability to meet general health requirements set forth by State regulations and Company policy, including medical and physical examinations.
- Ability to use a transfer/gait belt or obtain assistance when lifting or carrying objects in excess of 25 pounds.
Physical Requirements
- Regular worksite attendance.
- Frequent lifting of up to 10 lbs; constant lifting of 11 to 25 lbs; frequent lifting of 26 to 50 lbs; frequent lifting over 50 lbs.
- Constant carrying of up to 10 lbs; occasional carrying of 11 to 25 lbs; occasional carrying of 26 to 50 lbs; occasional carrying over 50 lbs.
- Frequent reaching above shoulder height; constant reaching at shoulder height; constant reaching below shoulder height.
- Constant pushing/pulling.
- Constant grasping and handling; occasional torquing; occasional fingering.
- Frequent twisting, bending, crawling, squatting, kneeling, crouching, climbing, and balancing.
- Ability to operate an automobile if required for business purposes.
- Ability to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and occasionally hostile individuals.
- Ability to see and hear or use prosthetics to enable these senses to function adequately.
