Full-time, overnight shift (10:30 PM – 7:00 AM) at AMC.

About the role

The Central Sterile Tech-II is responsible for the decontamination, inspection, maintenance, assembly, packaging, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instrumentation, equipment, and supplies to nursing departments. The role requires knowledge of operation and proper handling of all complex equipment within the department, as well as the ability to prioritize tasks under pressure while maintaining professionalism.

Responsibilities

  • Decontaminate and sterilize instruments, medical supplies, and equipment; assemble, wrap, and sterilize trays of instruments.
  • Follow proper Standard Precautions in decontamination and sterilization areas.
  • Monitor biological and chemical wash solutions to ensure quality and consistency for decontamination.
  • Assemble surgical instrument trays and medical equipment; distribute them to sterile processing customers in a timely manner.
  • Restock, label, and maintain inventory; submit requisitions; collect and distribute instruments, trays, crash carts, and facility medical equipment.
  • Perform environmental maintenance and assist in maintaining inventory levels in sterile processing, operating rooms, and equipment storage areas.
  • Verify equipment functionality; requisition maintenance, repair, or replacement; remove defective equipment.
  • Maintain a clean work area.
  • Assist with departmental policies, procedures, quality improvement, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
  • Communicate effectively using strong interpersonal skills.

Tier 2 Specific Duties

  • Perform call duties as required by the facility.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in decontamination, cleaning, assembly, and sterilization of semi-complex equipment and instrumentation, including:
    • Open Hearts
    • Thoracic Spine
    • Ophthalmology
    • Neurology
    • Power Equipment
    • General specialty instrumentation: Urology, Pediatrics, ENT, and Orthopedics
    • Robotics and scopes
    • Specialty Equipment – CUSA, BKA, and Ultrasound
  • Perform quality assurance checks on instrumentation and equipment.
  • Enter quality events into the SPM database.
  • Handle AMC-specific DME responsibilities: order supplies, navigate the Wound Vac database, and manage/conduct annual emergency cart inspections.
  • Decontaminate, high-level disinfect, record, and deliver TEE Probes to appropriate departmental storage areas.
  • Perform daily, weekly, monthly, and bi-yearly cleaning and quality checks of TEE machines.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 1 year of Sterile Processing experience.
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Knowledge of hospital settings, infection control, and medical terminology is highly desired.
  • Basic computer skills.
