About the Role
This position directs, plans, and coordinates the activities of the sterile processing department to meet patient care demands. Responsibilities include managing inventory levels of Operating Room (OR) supplies, ensuring proper maintenance and repair of OR equipment, and overseeing resources and personnel in the sterile processing department. The role focuses on productivity, quality of performance, and maintaining cost-effective inventory supply levels to support uninterrupted patient care.
Responsibilities
- Leads services that support the preoperative process by supervising staff, managing daily department operations, and communicating pertinent information.
- Manages supply, instrumentation, and equipment distribution to user areas to ensure inventory levels meet patient care and user demands while maintaining cost efficiency.
- Performs proper handling and reporting of inventory transactions for supplies and equipment.
- Trains and develops staff, ensuring employees are motivated to achieve functional objectives.
- Adapts behavior to specific patient populations, including respect for privacy, clear communication, and appropriate explanation of services or procedures.
- Ensures compliance with current federal, state, and local laws, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent (required).
- Graduation from an accepted program in surgical technology or a bachelor’s degree in surgical technology (preferred).
- 3 years of experience working with and leading teams (required).
- 2 years of experience in sterile processing (preferred).
- Experience working as a scrub tech or surgical tech in a hospital (preferred).
Skills
- Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present information clearly and professionally.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, including the ability to develop and motivate employees.
- Self-directed, organized, and goal-oriented with strong analytical skills.
- Ability to evaluate supply utilization and determine cost-effective inventory levels.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule (e.g., 24/7, weekends, holidays, on-call availability) and travel between facilities.
- Demonstrates good judgment and remains calm in difficult situations.
Certifications
- Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) (preferred).
- Certified Sterile Processing Department Technician (CSPDT) (preferred).
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) (preferred).
Physical and Environmental Demands
- Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, 25 to 50 pounds frequently, and 10 to 20 pounds constantly to move objects.
- Routine exposure to blood, body fluids, and tissue in a patient care area.
- Occupational risk for exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous medications, or hazardous waste.
Schedule
Mid Shift, 8-hour shifts from 2:30 PM to 11:00 PM.
