About the role
Join the UPMC Mercy team as a Central Sterile Processing Associate during a time of growth. Responsibilities include decontaminating and sterilizing surgical instruments, assembling trays, and collaborating with the team.
Responsibilities
- Decontaminate and sterilize instruments using manual and mechanical methods
- Assemble surgical trays and case carts per established protocols
- Monitor and document sterilization parameters
- Maintain and troubleshoot sterilization equipment
- Collaborate with team members and communicate effectively
- Participate in performance improvement and ongoing education
What We're Looking For
- Prior healthcare experience is required
- Solid attendance and professionalism
- Certification is a plus, but not required
Qualifications
- High school diploma/GED or equivalent with no experience -OR- Currently enrolled in an Accredited Surgical Technician/Sterile Processing Program Preferred -OR-1 year of experience within UPMC
- We strongly prefer applicants with prior healthcare experience.
- If grandfathered as a technician who does not hold certification, must complete 10 hours of continuing education to remain qualified as a Central Sterile Technician on an annual basis. Certified staff are required to complete 10-12 hours of continuing education as a condition of maintaining certification, as determined by the certifying body. Staff pending certification within 18 months of hire are not required to complete continuing education until certified.
- Must be able to stand for all shift hours and be able to pick up, push, pull etc. 35 pounds.
- Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution OR Certified Registered Central Service Technician with Healthcare Sterile Processing Association

Pay
Up to a $5,000 sign-on bonus is offered.
Schedule
Evening shifts available (2:00 PM – 10:30 PM) or night shifts (10:30 PM – 7:00 AM).
