Job Summary
To ensure efficient operation of our central plant and related equipment. To maintain the functionality and safety of UMMC’s critical infrastructure including, boilers, chillers and pumps.
Education & Experience
- High School Diploma/GED and two (2) years of experience with operating and maintaining boilers, chillers, HVAC equipment, utility systems, or industrial mechanical equipment.
Certifications, Licenses, Or Registration
- Valid Driver's License required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Vocational or technical training in stationary engineering.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong knowledge of central plant equipment, including boilers, chillers and HVAC systems;
- Skilled in troubleshooting mechanical and electrical systems;
- Familiarity with safety regulations and procedures.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a team, including on-call and rotating shift schedules;
- Physical fitness and the ability to lift heavy equipment and perform manual tasks as needed.
Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain central plant equipment, including boilers, chillers, pumps, and related systems.
- Monitor and adjust equipment settings to ensure optimal performance and energy efficiency.
- Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on central plant equipment.
- Identify and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and system failures.
- Perform necessary repairs or coordinate and collaborate with other facilities technicians on complex repairs.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations to ensure a safe working environment, and assist in maintaining compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Maintain accurate records of equipment inspections, maintenance, and repairs, as well as detailed logs of central plant operations and maintenance activities.
- Implement energy-saving measures and strategies to reduce operational costs.

- Frequent exposure to unpleasant or disagreeable physical environment such as high noise level and exposure to heat and cold,
- Frequent handling or working with potentially dangerous equipment,
- Occasional exposure to biohazardous conditions such as risk of radiation exposure, blood borne pathogens, fumes or airborne particles, and/or toxic or caustic chemicals which mandate attention to safety considerations,
- Occasional working hours significantly beyond regularly scheduled hours,
- Occasional travelling to offsite locations,
- Frequent activities subject to significant volume changes of a seasonal/clinical nature,
- Frequent work produced subject to precise measures of quantity and quality,
