Essential Responsibilities

• Affixes initiation and cessation of EKG and EEG monitoring.
• Maintains and logs patient information such as cardiac rhythm or rhythm component changes, cardiac rhythm variances, and EEG video tracings.
• Notifies nursing staff when leads are off or incorrectly placed.
• Assists with patient skin preparation and correct lead placement as needed.
• Notifies Registered Nurse of cardiac rhythm or rhythm component changes indicating myocardial ischemia or acute myocardial infarction.
• If the primary RN is unavailable, escalates through the appropriate chain of command.
• Notifies Registered Nurse of video EEG tracing changes.
• If the primary RN is unavailable, escalates through the appropriate chain of command.
• Identifies and resolves routine technical issues with the central monitoring system and initiates biomedical repairs as necessary.
• Maintains all telemetry and EMU equipment and supplies inventory.
• Documents patient periods off EEG or telemetry for showers, tests, and procedures.
• Analyzes cardiac rhythm and records measurements, calculations, and interpretations according to established protocols.
• Interprets relevant information to determine each patient's needs based on their age.
• Reports to RN/MD any irregularities observed on video EEG.
• Utilizes available equipment knowledgeably and reports malfunctions or hazardous situations to the charge nurse/nurse manager.
• Prepares EEG reports as directed.

Education And Experience Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Successful completion of dysrhythmia recognition course upon hire or within the employment probationary period.
• Successful completion of cardiac monitoring examination and EEG competency examination.
• PREFERENCE: Cardiac monitoring experience.
• PREFERENCE: One (1) year of acute patient care experience.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Requirements

• Maintain current knowledge of the technical operation of the central monitoring station.
• Annually complete an online arrhythmia recognition course with a 90% minimum.

Licenses, Registrations, Or Certifications Requirements

• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Education

• HS GRAD/EQUIVALENT

Working Conditions

• Manual: significant manual skills/motor coordination and finger dexterity.
• Occupational: some occupational risk.
• Physical Effort: medium to heavy effort, may exert up to 35 lbs. force.
• Physical Environment: some exposure to dirt, odors, noise, human waste, etc.
